GradGuard Tuition Insurance is available to students in all 50 states. If you're enrolled at an accredited post-secondary institution and are responsible for paying tuition, you may be eligible to purchase a plan.
Basic eligibility requirements
To be eligible for GradGuard Tuition Insurance, all of the following must apply:
- The student is healthy enough to begin classes at the start of the covered term
- The student is attending an accredited post-secondary institution in the United States
- The student (or their family) is responsible for paying tuition costs
- The student is a resident of the US (including lawfully present international students — see below)
Eligibility and specific plan terms vary by state of residence, as defined during the purchase process.
Who is NOT eligible?
GradGuard Tuition Insurance is not available for:
- Students at private high schools or K-12 programs
- Students at trade schools or vocational programs
- Students enrolled in professional development or continuing education programs
- Students who are not healthy at the start of the covered term (pre-existing conditions may affect eligibility — review plan details during your quote)
If you're unsure whether your school qualifies, you can check by starting a quote at gradguard.com/tuition/enroll and entering your school name.
Are international students eligible?
Yes. International students who are lawfully present and residing in the US and who pay tuition to an eligible accredited institution can purchase GradGuard Tuition Insurance.
The student's state of residence — as defined during the purchase process — determines eligibility and any benefits variations.
Am I covered while studying abroad?
Yes, with an important condition. Students studying abroad are eligible if their tuition and fees are paid directly to their home institution, not to the study abroad program itself.
If you pay tuition to a foreign university or a third-party study abroad provider rather than your home school, that portion of costs would not be covered.
