A single-term plan covers one semester; a multi-term plan covers any school terms within 365 days of purchase and allows multiple claims.
GradGuard offers two plan types: single-term and multi-term. The right choice depends on how many terms you want to cover and whether you'd prefer the simplicity of one annual purchase.

Single-term plan
A single-term plan provides coverage for the first school term beginning closest to the Covered Term start date shown on your Declarations page.
Key points:
- You can file one claim per single-term plan, up to the coverage amount
- If you want coverage for the following semester, you'll need to purchase a new plan before that term's first day of classes
- Good option if you're only covering one specific term and don't plan to re-enroll
Multi-term plan
A multi-term plan provides coverage for any school terms that begin within 365 days of your purchase date.
Key points:
- You can file multiple claims within the plan period, up to your total coverage amount
- One purchase covers fall and spring semesters (and summer, if applicable) within the 365-day window
- Removes the need to re-purchase each term — one less thing to remember before each semester
- Generally the more convenient option for students planning to continue their enrollment
Which plan is right for you?
Choose a single-term plan if:
- You're only covering one specific term (e.g., a student starting college for the first time and wanting to protect just the first semester)
- You're uncertain about re-enrolling and don't want to pay for future coverage upfront
Choose a multi-term plan if:
- You want to cover a full academic year with one purchase
- You'd rather not remember to re-purchase before each term's deadline
- You want the ability to file more than one claim within the year if needed
Important: make sure you have the right term covered
Whichever plan you choose, verify that the Covered Term start date on your Declarations page matches the term you intend to protect. If you're unsure, contact our support team before your term begins.
