Filing a tuition insurance claim starts with a phone call to Allianz Partners at 877-794-6603. Once your claim is open, you'll submit documentation of your withdrawal and the costs you're claiming. Written notice of claim must be submitted within 120 days after the covered occurrence.
The steps below walk you through what to gather and where to send everything.
Before you file: what you'll need
Gather the following before starting your claim:
- Proof of withdrawal — official documentation from your school confirming complete withdrawal from the covered term
- Medical documentation — a statement from a licensed medical professional advising the withdrawal, including the diagnosis or condition and the date the withdrawal was recommended
- School invoice or billing statement — showing the tuition, fees, and housing charges for the covered term
- Refund documentation — any refund or credit issued by the school, so GradGuard can calculate the non-refundable amount
- Your Declaration of Coverage — confirms your coverage amount and Policy Effective Date
How to file your claim
- Call Allianz Partners at 877-794-6603 to open your claim. This is the required first step — claims must be initiated by phone.
- You'll receive a checklist of required documents and instructions for what to submit.
- Submit your documentation by email, mail, or fax — and include your plan number in all communication.
Your school will also need to complete an Institution Validation Form as part of the process. See our Institution Validation Form guide for instructions on how to get this completed.
Where to send your completed documentation
Once Allianz Partners provides your document checklist, submit everything via mail, fax, or email. Include your plan number in the subject line or body of all communication.
Allianz Partners Attn: Tuition Claims Dept. P.O. Box 72031 Richmond, VA 23255-2031
Fax: (804) 673-1469 Email: tuitionclaims@allianzassistance.com
Include your Reference Number in the subject line or body of any email submission.
What happens after I submit?
Once your claim is submitted:
- Your claim will be reviewed by the claims team
- You may be contacted if additional documentation is needed
- Approved reimbursements are paid directly to the claimant — not to the school. See our reimbursement payment FAQ for details on how payment is issued
Important: complete withdrawal is required
Tuition insurance may only apply to complete withdrawal from the covered term only. Dropping individual courses, moving to part-time enrollment, or transitioning to remote learning without formally withdrawing does not qualify as a covered withdrawal.
What if I have a multi-term plan?
If you have a multi-term plan, the claims process is the same — but there are specific rules about how subsequent claims work after the first. See our multi-term claims FAQ for details.
